This two week course provides a broad introduction to emergency management as a community of practice and as a profession. Emergency management is a dynamic, multi-phased process that includes prevention, preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery. Students come away with an understanding of roles, responsibilities, and legal boundaries in emergency management as well as how these relate to the concept of serving the Whole Community. - Ethical Decision-making; Stress Management; Collaboration and Managing People
- Team Building; Influencing Styles and Approaches
- Intergovernmental/Interagency Contexts
- The Future of Emergency Management
The L0101 Foundations in Emergency Management course requires two weeks (80 hours, 10 days) of instruction. It is designed to be an immersive learning experience so that participants have the opportunity to create the connections with colleagues that are so essential to an effective emergency management professional network.
Students interested in the enrolling in the first course of the EMPP Basic Academy, L0101 Foundations of Emergency Management, should complete this application for admission and provide all supporting documentation. Admission to L0101 is selective; this ensures the success of each learner and helps create a class cohort with representation from a variety of emergency management areas.
